Bye bye Gussy the cat.

It was sort of a sad day yesterday, well no tears were shed but it was still sort of a sad day. Gus the cat has gone on a (hopefully rather long) holiday with Ben & Kate & Otto & Liberty. He's sort of on a months trial in case he hates it, but hopefully he'll love it and they will keep him.

Whilst we have loved Gus as our first born child in the eight years we'd had him we had slowly grown apart and it was time to part company in the nicest way possible.

For me the problem was his constant need to sleep on clean washing, beds, cushions, in babies bouncy chair, in cot, bed, buggy, pram, car seat in fact anywhere he could find that wasn't his own wicker basket.
For Marc it was his yowling for food when he already had a bowl full of biscuits. (i think we had spoilt him when he was our one and only son)

We aquired Gus from Caroline and Richard on the 10th May 1998, apparently he was only a kitten, but i'm not so sure cos he seemed quite big from what i remember. Caroline and Richard at the time had lots of cats, maybe 8/9/10 in a one bed flat, so i think Gus was quite relieved to leave the cat house and come to our quiet little flat.

He has been spoilt rotten in the past, we even built him steps in the wall up to our first floor flat which he took too very quickly. Imagine his delight when we moved to a house with a garden, he must have been in his element.
But then Daisy came along and the attention moved from Gus to the little baby, and now little Iris has come along, poor Gus wasn't getting any kind of look in, he was just fed and left, hardly a stroke touched his back from day to day.

So the guilt finally made us do the right thing and find him a better home, a home that would love him like we used to. And that home is Ben & Kate's home, and i know that Otto (5 in Oct) and Liberty (3 in Jan) will give him lots and lots of much needed love & attention.

Bye bye Gus, you will be missed, (perhaps not immediately cos to be honest i'm just relieved that i don't have to worry about you sleeping on the clean washing and making Daisy's ezcema flare up, or even sleeping on baby Iris), but you will definately be missed.

Daisy doesn't really seem to have noticed that he's gone, fingers crossed it stays like that.
